Komhukum (Jakarta) - Penyanyi perintis soul-blues modern, Bobby "Blue" Bland, tutup usia pada umur 83 tahun, Minggu (23/6), demikian laporan stasiun televisi lokal mengutip Memphis Music Foundation.

Bland adalah salah satu anggota Blues Foundation's Hall of Fame dan Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Lagu-lagu hitsnya penyanyi yang dijuluki "The Lion of The Blues" itu antara lain "Turn on Your Love Light", "Further on Up the Road", dan "I Pity the Fool."

Menurut biografi Bland di laman Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Bland lahir di Rosemark, Tennessee, tahun 1930.

Tahun 1947 Bland pindah ke Memphis, tempat dia mulai mencampurkan musik gospel, blues, dan R&B, bergabung dengan Beale Streeters, grup yang terdiri atas Johnny Ace, B.B. King, dan Junior Parker.

Bland pernah menerima penghargaan Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award pada 1997 silam, demikian seperti dilansir Reuters. (K-4/EIO)
